AI Image Layers

A finished still is one flat picture.
Take it apart.

The client wants the same key art with the product swapped, the sign in Arabic, and the background dropped for a billboard crop. On a flat render that is three regenerations and a coin toss on whether the face survives. Layers splits the still you already approved into its elements — subject, props, background — and hands each one back as a transparent PNG you can edit on its own.

What comes back

Not a preview. Assets.

A split is a finishing job like an upscale, so its output lands where every other render lands: in your library, on your wallet, inside the same workspace and approval chain.

A base plus up to 16 layers

The base plate sits at the bottom of the stack. Every element above it arrives as its own transparent PNG, in the depth order the model read from the scene.

Each layer is labelled

Every layer carries a name, a one-line description, and a bounding box in source pixels — so a layer is findable and placeable, not an anonymous cut-out.

Editable on its own

Open any single layer in the editor, restyle it, or drop it into a new generation as a reference. The other layers stay untouched.

Steerable, or not

Write a hint, box up to 16 regions on the source, or say nothing at all and let the model choose the seams. Steering never changes the price.

Your Cast survives it

A layer pulled from an approved frame still carries the face you locked. Reuse it as a reference and the identity travels with it.

Flat price, quoted first

6 VX a split at 1K or 1.5K, whether it returns three layers or sixteen. Nothing runs before you see the number.

Anatomy of a split

One frame, read as a stack

A night market still, taken apart: the subject clears the crowd, the crowd clears the neon, and the base plate holds what is left. Depth order comes back with the layers, so the stack rebuilds itself.

The layers are re-rendered near your chosen size tier, not masked out of the original file. Edges come back clean and the content matches, but this is a re-render, not a pixel-exact extraction — worth knowing before it replaces a masked PSD in a workflow that depends on the original pixels.

The rate card

Per split, not per layer

Live figures from the same cost table that meters the studio. The only knob that moves the price is the output size.

Output sizeVX per splitAvailable to agents
1K6 VXYes
1.5KDEFAULT6 VXYes
2K12 VXStudio only

Available from Studio. Inputs are checked before anything is charged: PNG or JPEG, at least 512 by 512, no side over 6,000 pixels, up to 30 MB. A refused input costs nothing, and a failed split refunds itself.

How it works

Still to stack, three moves

01

Pick a still

Any finished image in your library, a plate, or an upload. Nothing is downloaded and re-uploaded to get it into the tool — it is already there.

02

Steer it, or don't

Name the elements you want separated, or box them on the frame. Skip both and the model reads the scene itself. Pick the size tier; the quote settles before the job exists.

03

Get a stack back

The base and every layer land in the library as their own assets, each named and depth-ordered, ready to edit, download, or feed into the next generation.

Where it lives

Four doors into the same job

One finishing kind, reachable from wherever you already are — the same quote and the same wallet behind each door.

The editor

A Layers module beside the canvas: the stack, per-layer download, and a jump straight into editing one layer or reusing it as a reference.

The library

Split any finished still from its result card, next to upscale and background removal. Split stacks are marked so a layer never gets mistaken for the master.

The workflow canvas

A Layers node takes an image wire in and can explode the whole stack out as separate input nodes, so a split feeds the rest of a graph.

Agents, over MCP

Claude, Claude Code, Cursor, or Codex can run a split as a tool call at 1K or 1.5K, under the same quote-first spend gate as every other paid tool.

FAQ

Layer splitting, answered

What does a layer split actually return?
One still goes in. What comes back is a re-rendered base plate plus up to 16 transparent PNG layers, each carrying its own depth order, a name, a short description, and a bounding box in source pixels. Every layer lands in your library as a real asset: downloadable on its own, editable on its own, and usable as a reference on a later generation.
How much does it cost?
It is a flat price per job, not per layer: 6 VX at 1K or 1.5K, and 12 VX at 2K. A split that returns three layers and one that returns sixteen cost the same. The quote appears before the job runs, and a failed split refunds automatically.
Are the layers cut out of my original pixels?
No, and this is the important caveat. The model re-renders each element near the size tier you picked rather than masking and cropping the original file. Edges are clean and the content matches, but a layer is not a pixel-exact extraction from your source, so it is not a substitute for a masked PSD when you need the original pixels preserved exactly.
Can I control what gets separated?
Yes, two ways, and both are optional. You can write a short hint describing the elements you want pulled apart, and you can box up to 16 regions directly on the source to point at them. Left alone, the model decides the split itself. Neither steering option changes the price.
What can I feed it?
A PNG or JPEG, at least 512 by 512 pixels, no side longer than 6,000 pixels, up to 30 MB, and no more extreme than 16:1 in either direction. Anything outside those bounds is refused before any VX moves, so a bad input costs nothing.
Which plans include it?
Layer splitting starts on Studio, alongside the rest of the finishing rail. Agents driving the studio over MCP can run it at 1K and 1.5K; 2K is available in the studio itself, where the render is not bounded by the agent request window.
